In memory of Siegfried Wenzel

On behalf of Holly Johnson:

With a heavy heart, I’m sad to report the death of Siegfried Wenzel, who passed away after a very brief illness on September 27, 2024. He was 96. His contribution to medieval studies, and sermon studies in particular, was immense. He published 12 books, beginning with his masterful work on sloth (although he was never slothful), and countless articles and was at work on a new scholarly project the day he died. He recently said to me that he half hoped that in heaven there would be medieval manuscripts to study! He was a wonderful mentor to me and many others and will be much missed by his friends and family.
